Poem -

At Both Ends

At Both Ends

The star that shines brightest
Burns out twice as fast
If your not in first placeΒ
You might as well be last

In a dead sprint to the line
Like a candle burning at both ends
Only a heart that's been broken
Is aware what it takes to mend

This is not the end of my story
It is only the beginning
How many losses do I have to take
Before this feels like I can start winingΒ

I feel stuck in a downward spiral
In a tailspin losing all control
And with every shot at clarity
It feels I chip away at my soul

I am just confused by life
I try to understand
But every answer I uncover
Brings me closer to the end

This is me, and my words will carry on
I will not let this world break me
I will continue to burn the midnight oil
And I guess I'll just go where life takes me

I just would like to know
If my work makes a difference
I would like something to show
Before I've gone the distance

For those of you reading
I will be just fine
This is just an entry
Into my rather complicated mind

Hey Luke, enjoyed the poem. It covers many facets of the thought process.... and heart. It is a refining for him really, or so it seems as I read. He is coming to terms with his own life and yet adjusting other aspects, to fit his aspirations...... of life's moments still to come. I like it. Thanks for sharing................Paula
