At The Bottom

At The Bottom

Always at the bottom looking up
Standing waist deep in the muck
Every step I've made to change that
Has made me get even more stuck
I try to be the torch to light the way
But I'm unable to get my footing on the ladder
Any time I end up wiggling out
I get hit then fall back in while I stagger
I've been able to keep my head out of the water
But only just above it
And I've swallowed so much salt water
It's making me violently sickΒ
I'm not saying I'm gonna give up
I am not built that way
But what I will do
Since it appears I have to stay
Is try and find the others
That are also stuck in this quicksand
Form a human chain
Grab them all by the hand
I can't do this alone
But maybe if we all work together
We can free ourselves from the filth
And break free of the bottom forever
