Attempt at Writing a Sestina
When I was only one or two
I did as I was told to do
I learned the things that others knew
I grew, and gave my heart to you
The winds of change so swiftly blew
Swift away my childhood flew
Then one year I caught the flu
Other people caught it too
My hands so cold, my skin so blue
Dampness, early morning dew
Me, and them, and also you
It chilled our bones, both old and new
The shortest day I ever knew
Like the birds, migration flew
I weakened and I reached for you
I felt small again, a child of two
I did what living things must do
While winds of change against me blew
The birds of yellow, red and blue
With hope that life will start anew
Let go, like living things must do
Gone south I guess, like birds I flew
Away. And other creatures too
The fish, the calf, the bear, the yew
The horse, the lion, even you
The breeze that year so often blew
And some day you'll surrender too
I didn’t know...nobody knew
Its such a little thing, the flu!
What damage something small can do!
I had so many things to do
I wanted one more day with you
I want them back, those years that flew
Regretting chances that I blew
Embracing all the joys I knew
Remembering the sorrows too
Goodbye to the morning dew, so long forever sky of blue
Gone are the days I spent with you, gone the love that we once knew
How fast the years of living flew! Appreciate each moment too

Wow, thank you!
I wrote it to challenge myself, because a sestina is notoriously difficult to write. I am thrilled that you enjoyed reading it!
