autumn

autumn

sit here this autumn, looking back on life,
my spring and summer come and gone,
mindful that It wont be long before
mid-winter’s here and finds me wrapped
in fluffy socks, fur-lined boots and Fair
Isle woollen sweater, toes and fingers
tightly crossed, waiting for March hares
and warmer weather.

the wheel of life keeps turning; life’s
candle keeps on burning, more now
a fearful flicker than a fearless flame.

meanwhile the raging fire, that drives
the rush of time, burns faster and of
memories, good and bad, buried deep
inside my aging mind, oft I catch a
glimpse through autumn’s glaze and rime.

Thank you, Kathleen. Inspired by the recent harvest moon and my own time in life.

Thank you, Keith, for your very generous comment. To be compared with Yeats is an accolade I'll wear with pride! Rowland
