Beauty in every imperfection
Sometimes we fear judgment so much when we are ourselves
So we hide behind pretty faces
And artificial skin
Or thick books
And glasses
Long hair to hide our eyes
Long sleeves to shield our wrists
Or bold hair to cover insecurity
And short clothes to distract from poor confidence
Our mouths speak of how we don't care
But our eyes reveal the need to be accepted
Our ears relay a message of being independent
But our hearts fear the rejection
We know we shouldn't but we lie
We know we should ignore , we still reply
We feel our morals breaking, still we refuse to cry
We know of the beauty we're destroying but all we see are dollar signs
We're all suffering the same inside, we refuse to believe we're like everyone else
And that is when we start to truly lose ourselves
It's like an international message
To all those who fear what's inside
If you don't like what you see in the mirror
Close your eyes
Walk away
Find something to cover all the ugly parts of your skin
They say the only ugly is what's within
That keep us up at night wondering why our skin doesn't shine like it does on those covers of magazines
When will we realize
That we don't have to photo shop ourselves to see perfection
You can artificially remove every part of your skin
And you'll never get deep enough to find it
Cause it doesn't exist
Loving yourself doesn't come with a receipt
You can find beauty without looking so deep
If you look in the mirror and you don't like what you see
Learn to love what you see
That every wound your heart holds is what helps you see beauty
In all its imperfection
There's beauty in your reflection
There's no reason to hide
Cause if anyone doesn't like it
Then THEY can close their eyes
Sometimes we fear judgment so much we'd rather change who we are.
So who are we trying to impress?
Cause we're hiding along with everyone else
