Forgiveness can't erase my scars

They say it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission
So we make mistakes with clarity in our heartsĀ
That when it's doneĀ
When the mess is over we can just repentĀ
And ask for forgivenessĀ
So that we didn't have to ask cause the answer was always yes to us
We didn't have to beg cause they always agreedĀ
And when the mistake is made we don't have to cry about it
Cause soon we'd be forgivenĀ
And the mess would be forgottenĀ
And the trust we'd soon redeem so our souls can live on at easeĀ
No one was harmedĀ
There's no need for the alarmĀ
Or the drama that comes from askingĀ
We didn't seek permission
So it's an open invitation admissionĀ
And if it ends badlyĀ
That's okay we'll be forgivenĀ
But what if you're not
What if the mistake can't be undone with a simple apologyĀ
And the scars can't be forgotten with the words we speakĀ
We make as remediesĀ
In hopes the soothing sounds of comfort will be received with open armsĀ
And all the harm is undoneĀ
As we are forgivenĀ
But what if those open arms are brokenĀ
Sliced and scarred with every lie you toldĀ
Every rule you brokeĀ
And they don't want to listenĀ
What if the harm doesn't eraseĀ
And the memories stayĀ
And they haunt us foreverĀ
What ifĀ
What if they never go away.Ā
We can't sayĀ
We'll ask for forgivenessĀ
When the hardest part isn't asking but forgivingĀ
How do you forgive the one who took all that you had and broke all you are made of
How do you forgive a broken trust laced with a damaged heart and secrets you never knew about
How do you forgiveĀ
Someone who asks for forgivenessĀ
When they couldn't even ask for permission
It's not the result
It's your resolution
It's the intention
Cause we knew there'd be harmĀ
And we knew we'd cause scarsĀ
And we knew we'd tell liesĀ
And we knew we'd lose trust
And we knew it'd be hard
And we knew we'd make a messĀ
But we'd be forgiven.Ā
And the mess would be forgottenĀ
And the trust would be redeemedĀ
But it's not that easyĀ
Cause your heart is still wholeĀ
And your skin is still warmĀ
And your nights are still calmĀ
And your pride is still highĀ
Cause your life is still sane
But mine is in painĀ
Cause I can't forgive you
I can't forget
I can't erase my scarsĀ
Or close my eyes in my dreamsĀ
Cause the memories don't go awayĀ
And those words just don't erase the pain
They don't erase the scarsĀ
They don't erase the liesĀ
They don't erase the harm
Or my broken heart
And it doesn't go away
They say it's easier to ask for forgiveness than to ask for permission
Well i don't forgive you.
Now what?

Wow seems like we have the same scars and the pain doesn't go away. But hopefully we can get through it one day at a time. I hope that you are ok, because I know pain so well. I had lived a hell that I wouldn't wish on anyone. If ever you need a ear to listen i'm here.
Thank you so much! I'm sorry for all the pain you went through, hopefully it does go away only to leave us stronger too. It is an inevitable thing but it doesn't make it suck less when it hits you. I am absolutely fine don't worry, but thank you for your consideration. I actually love to write poetry from different perspectives through stories I've heard or lived through or seen. You as well, if you ever need it I'm always happy to listen love :)
That's good. I hope all is well if you ever get down and need someone to listen I'm always here.
I read once that, to forgive is not to forget, but it is to remember without hatred and without rancor.
And sometimes that can only be achieved, over time. Blessings Haifa Ali.
