Before

Before you everything was wrong
My life felt like it had no direction or purpose
I wasn't happy 
I didn't laugh
I never understood how it felt to be loved
I didn't understand why people fell in love
How they could put everything they had into a person
How blindly they could trust that the person they put everything into wouldn't take it and run
Leaving them with nothing
Then you happened
I felt like my life finally had a direction
I wanted things
I was happy
I laughed more
I learned how being loved, truly being loved felt
And slowly the understanding of why people fall in love came
I put everything, my energy, time, love, money, hope, happiness, everything into you
I trusted that you wouldn't leave me, I trusted your promises and your words because you had been hurt too and swore you would never do that to me.
And now that you're gone I'm left with nothing
I have nothing to give
No love, time, energy, no happiness
Nothing because even though you're gone it's still with you
My love, my time, my energy and my happiness became so entangled with you
that when you left it left with you
I have nothing to give
I understand now why people fall in love
They fall in love because it is the most amazing feeling
Worth every tear
every sleepless night
every fight
every ounce of energy
every moment of time
every hope
every dream
All because one day you hope you'll find the one who will pour it all back into you
So even though you're gone I still have hope because in the time you were with me you loved me like no one ever has
And maybe everybody leaves and no one is permanent but the feeling that one day I'll find someone who won't leave is.
And that is something that can't be taken away.
