Birth of a Poet

Birth of a Poet

To the ears of the god, Odin
she begged to be a poet
   his diamond words
    sparked inspiration
then came flattery
  and her mouth opened wide,
    extolling soliloquies
rhymes
  unyielding prosperity
flowed like wine
   her gratitude did not
no obeisance
given to Odin
  pride gave birth to narcissism
      his jealousy quickened
pain and darkness came to her
and in despair
 she called herself a poet
