Bitter-sweet memories

Bitter-sweet taints my heart
for I have loved and lost in equal part
As dark chocolate memories melt 
on the taste buds of my mind
I swallow back sweet tears.

With both joy and ache, I lament
the hours and days that we once spent
Whiled away in each other's company
drinking of each other's delights
Now my glass lays empty.

Though you are gone, a time long past
I carried you with me, in my heart
Wrapped safely in my very soul
the lights now dimmed the final song
