BLISS OF LOVE
A BOOK OF POETRY BY WILLIAMSJI MAVELI

TOUCH
I taste the lie before the tongue can speak,
I watch for signs that tell me you must flee;
My constant gaze, vigilance I keep,
For in the end, that is your destiny.
No trust was lost, for none was ever mine,
Each promise made, a hollow, treacherous sound;
Your touch, a fraud in every gentle line,
So by my hand, the structure is unbound.
I tear the dream before the rot can spread,
Then sit among the shards and velvet dust,
And tell myself the thing I never breed
Was never wanted, born of false-felt trust.
Perhaps the flaw lies only deep in me,
A heart already braced for agony.
