Body in the Trunk

Body in the Trunk

(circa early 1990's)

I played football with Joey
at Raub Junior High School.
I liked Joey, he was
a year younger than me.

A decade later,  I visit
The Stop Light Bar
at 12th and Allen Streets and
meet some high school buddies
in Allentown.  They tell me
Joey was part of  bike gang,
went to a bar in the Poconos and
got into a fight with someone.
Joey took the fire extinguisher and
hit his opponent in the head.

He dragged the body and
threw it in his trunk
to dump the body somewhere
on Mount Pocono.
Driving away,  red and blue lights
come on in the rear view mirror.

The officer walks up
to the driver’s window
and Joey says,
“The body is in the trunk.”
The officer pulled him
over for a broken tail light.
The person in the trunk
also turned out to not be dead.

Joey did 10 years
in the Big House.

Always keep your
signal lights
and headlights
functioning -
in case you
have to make a
midnight drop
somewhere.
