BRICK CITY BELOW THE SUBURBS

BRICK CITY BELOW THE SUBURBS

Come visit the city of bricks
Ever heard of it, Newark NJ
Where living is a dreamĀ
Hardly realized and rarely materializedĀ

The hood alarm goes offĀ
Every hour of the dayĀ
Not your Swiss watch alarm
Or five star hotel wake up call

It's the screaming voiceĀ
Of a mother's cry
Sounding the alarmĀ
Of her son that diedĀ

Shot down in the streetsĀ
Laying in a pool of bloodĀ
Lights snuffed outĀ
His warm body turning cold
Lifeless! On that asphalt road

While you lay securedĀ
In your protected surrounding
A 911 call is madeĀ
But pray to GodĀ
For a connectionĀ

The Police has more importance things to do
Maybe they'll show upĀ
If you were a man in blueĀ
So what's there to do
In the city of bricksĀ

Live your life one day at a timeĀ
Cause chances areĀ
You will become the next victimĀ
Of Brick City crimes.
