Bring Me Down

Bring me down
Yes, Sorrow
Bring me down
For the only lessons I've ever learned
I've learned while on the ground

The wisest, then
Have the dirtiest faces
The muddiest hands
The bloodiest knees

And their hearts, they fail
For a great barb of sorrow
Has lodged itself within them
And each nudge
Drives it further in
Shocks their nerves.

They collapse, they fall,
in pain,
where upon the ground
Wisdom shall cover them.

So get up, wise one.
A sad heart
A vulnerable heart
A loving heart
is wise,
is good.

And to you, may you struggle,
may you stink,
may you share your filth,
that more might learn
the goodness in your darkness.
