White-Collar Woe

Work is dreary and corrupts the days,
yet the boredom is fuel for dreams.
But if these visions should stand for years,
I'll learn then what they mean.

An author, a poet, a lawyer, a businessman,
All these things of me I've dreamed
As I work the days from dawn til dusk,
And work the morn' again.

I wonder always when change will come,
I wait and work and dream,
But nothing changes in this dreary land,
At least that's how it seems.

Here I know how tomorrow goes;
It's the same as yesterday.
Surrounded by others in a solitude
that takes our souls away.

I listen to the quiet longing of my soul
who cries out in search of Life
But here Life's gone til 5pm
And returns the morn' again.
