The British Empire
A thing of the past
A dragon breathing fire
Now outcast
Our Victoria
A naval vast
Euphoria
She did cast
Yet going back
Our German friends
The Hanoverians
Who still pretend
The Tudors & Stuarts
Would have you believe
Of their descendants
We should all grieve
Yet back further
Should we lambast
Our forefathers
The Plantagenets?
Or should we grieve
Over the house of Anjou?
âRichard the Lionheartâ
And John in pursuit
Three lions
Took the place of two
Although leaving the country
In dispute
In the last century
Weâve had two Edwards
And two Georges too
Yet looking forwards
We have Elizabeth 2
With all this in mind
It seems to me
We still need to  find
A land that is free
Free of fines
Free of finds
Free of speech
So we can be discrete
So as the welfare bill
Is put in reverse
Donât forget those who fought
And those that were killed
Emily Pankhurst
Who fought for womenâs rights
The general strike
Of 1929
That made slave labour
A real crime
And yet we now live
In precarious times
Where no one forgives
For the menial of crimes
A Sanction for this
A Sanction for that
An appointment I missed
As I bid for a flat
And as I try to live
On nothing but fresh air
Remember this is
Certainly not fair
Iâd worked thirty years
And paid my due
Now all my fears
Have come true
I lost my job
On Monday last
And now Iâm classed
As an outcast
The Job centre I went
For an handout
Hours I spent
Without out
A family to feed
A mortgage to pay
Now in need
They had nothing to say
Whilst in work
You did state
The Welfare bill
We should abate
So donât forget
Only you are to blame
That that safety net
Was for you just the same
