Poem -

Brown-skinned Fool

A wanderer looking for solace
another brown-skinned immigrant
in the land of opportunity
already blazing with fires of prejudice

they gazed with suspicion
innuendos in whispers
with smiles they pointed fingers
"we don't trust your intentions"

he was unfazed
he was amused
he'd seen of the world
knew better men and women
he knew even his famous countrymen
couldn't escape the bigotry
he was just a regular guy
but he was amused
at the pedigree of those
who stood in judgement of him

but he didn't care for revolution
he'll fight his fight
fists in unfamiliar dark alleys
on sheets of white paper
we still kill, maim, plunder
under this guise or that
so he knew not much would change
for we read about-
Martin Luther King
Gandhi
Mandela
we read but we forget
so he was better off
fighting his fight alone

I know his story well
tourist, wanderer, vagabond
I know his story well
I am the brown-skinned man
I am a brown-skinned man
I am--
just another brown-skinned man.
