Poem -

Burning the Midnight Oil

O my soul it burns

Out it flows

My river is dry

I have no more tears

The pain drives deeper than the knife

For a second I smell the ocean air

For a second I smell the fresh snow

I am gone

I have drifted off

My mind is trained to divert the flood

To where I do not know

Where do my tears go

Where have I pooled them

The Nile flows better

I want to but cannot find

I walk and search, then trust

Trust I do not know

O my soul it burns

My fire is lit

Burning the midnight oil
