Poem -

But You Weren't There

But You Weren't There

I waited in the sun and the rain once again,
wondering if you'd forgiven me for all the pain,
probably not, memory stores and wonders laid bare,
I thought that you loved me true but you weren't there.

While I was waiting, someone called God came along,
he said that you should accept that you may be wrong,
now, the male ego always needs someone to really care,
that was all very well I suppose but you weren't there.

Did someone just say to swallow pride, churning inside,
it wasn't the first time, nor the last that you cried,
I should know by now, I have the time to stand and stare,
ready to give answers, reconcile, but you weren't there.

The evening paled as I looked for a familiar shadow,
only my own just said that it was time for me to go.
