By the window

By the window

I was standing by the window
in the house that I called home

Looking out upon my past
embellished on my own

My memory spoke clarity –
preponderance of good

Afresh – anew – the wind blew in
experience of should

I should – should not
oh, time forgot
the thunderclap – away

I should – should not
oh, time forgave
misfortune from that day

A week – a month – a year – a life
considered unremarkable – a jot

In scheme of things –
what life can bring
the day that time forgot

That day I’d come to cherish
and to worship what had past

Oh, life, my dear,
my fondest love
life travels far too fast

I couldn’t speak to what I’d lost
for in search of today

Was the window
in the house called home –
where memory would stay
