Candy Hearts

I tried to whisper

strange, beautiful things

that curled in the air like smoke

and nested in your soul

But you wanted clichés

Fortune cookies with paper futures

candy hearts and chocolate

Do your teeth hurt, now?

I was dark and sour

liquorish and lime

both flavours that could cut through

the sickliness in your throat.
