Blue Flannel

You wore blue flannel shirt with a chest pocket

and smelled of rancid smoke

manure

sweat

 God, I loved you

I loved you, God

because you were my God

with a red tractor

and arms like tree trunks

You didn’t collapse

that was for lesser men

you were felled

One dusty hand

on your chest.
