The Cherry Tree

The Cherry Tree

Planted for your christening; roots firmly in the ground
It Symbolised 'life'. A firm friendship soon was bound
You blossomed as one; both grew stronger every day.
Supported in the branches...they'd never give way
Here to guide and teach you, be happy and carefree
A confident climber in your special cherry tree

A bearer of  ripe fruit, soon a family was  made
laughter and happiness, warm sunshine and shade
Life!  Yes it was PERFECT and your tree stood so proud
A perfect day in spring...and not a single cloud
Petals delicate as skin, fruit as sweet as slumber
I close my eyes ...And that's the time I try to remember

Loved ones  lost forever... They were layed to rest
Beneath the cherry tree that they had loved the best
And blossom fell like falling tears, covering where they lay
The very place where happiness had visited one day
Sorrow gripped at  both your hearts, the two of you distressed
You said goodbye to memories... And then you flew the the nest

A bed of leaves, protective arms, now weary, thin and bare
Cold and empty garden. A tree... No fruit to bare
Silhouetted branches twisted round your bedroom wall
A room of isolation, were you ever there at all?
Forever changing season.. new life, leaves fall and die
Home is where the heart is... It's time to say goodbye

Laughter silenced by deafness , memories covered in frost
A gift from above call FAMILY; slipped through my fingers.LOST
Sixteen long years you have stood there; stories you could've told
Of life and all of  it's downfalls... For sale sign: now says SOLD
They say home is where the heart is, but mine is broken and torn
I walked away...The cherry tree, forever I will mourn

BLOSSOM

I have goosebumps Maddison, your poetry comes from a place deep inside your heart.  Emotion is something no one can feign, not really, and the sadness and heartache in your poetry is so palpable Maddison,  The blossom tree was such a sorrowful piece. it epitomised all those years with every emotion so beautifully and symbolically.  There are some writers on here that when you click on to their work you know no matter what it may be about you will get a good quality read and you are definitely one of them.  Your work is so strong and I love what you do.  You take me along with you on your stories and journey every time you write.  An undoubted vote and nom.  Keep writing more and more I love reading:)

Sweety, that piece is just stunning. It`s also close to my heart as last year I planted a cherry blossom tree in our new garden for my son Andrew`s memory. It is only 2ft tall and only has three tiny branches but this week has suddenly sprouted eight beautiful little tiny blossoms. So not only am I thrilled about your work today but my little Cherry Tree is really going to survive and flurish. Thank you for making my day by writing this piece. Love G xx

I'm very happy to make your day, may your cherry tree continue to grow and give you strength, and may happy memories of Andrew always be with you ...

Wow!!!! I know my comments are always so short but I just wanted to say this was beautifully written!

When I kept reading "Home is where the heart is" - it reminds me of something I used to say -

--If home is where the heart is...then I want to go home.--

This poem is another add to my favorites and a vote from me!
