Childhood Magic

Childhood Magic

I miss the days when life was simple
When the world was full of wonder
The excitement and the thrill
Of the lightening and the thunder
The magic of the fireworks lighting up the sky
Sitting with my telescope watching shooting stars zip by
Wondering if  the toadstools hidden in the grass
Contained a magic fairy portal through which my soul could pass
Stories of the mermaids who swam beneath the lake
Would help me drift away when I felt so wide awake
Water fights and paddling pools
Long days spent in the sun
The never-ending holidays
Filled with friends and fun
My daughter's eyes contain the light
Which my heart has locked away
I look at her and it always reminds me
Of a better day....
