Christmas Eve

The tree is up and the baubles are hung
That festive time of year has begun.
The children are excited
They are running here and there
While grandad has fallen asleep in his chair.

The presents are wrapped
And placed under the tree
Dad has opened and drunk
Half a bottle of whiskey.
Mum is prepping the turkey
The day before
So tomorrow she can enjoy
All that Christmas has in store.

The dog is going crazy
In the kitchen it begs for food
And because she is on the wine
Mum's mood is pretty good.
All the last minute shopping
Is done now they wait
For the hours to tick by
until it's Christmas day.
