Christmas In The Forties

The best Christmas gift I receive each year
Is love, simply pure sweet affection
What could possibly be more cherished than that
It's the meaning of Christmas on reflection
Too bad this feeling doesn't last the whole year
What a joyous world it would be
Dream on little fellow, you're a wee bit delusional
You're sounding like a nostalgic retiree
The world has changed and not for the better
It's just a personal opinion I quote
Gone are the days of warm Christmas visits
Bearing gifts under big overcoats
Each generation has its own treasured memories
Today's kids will remember theirs fondly
But ask anybody from back in the forties
They'll say those were the best, by golly

This is gorgeously sentimental.... and truly elegant in its simplicity..... those days you refer to at the end of the poem were of that time when simplicity bore the kind of fruit that is so lacking in this time period...... when family and the closeness of dear friends were truly cherished...... and not expected..... it simply WAS!!....... Love this JACK!!...... hugs n kisses......T xo
Good day, Mr. Tony!!! It was a different time or is it just me being nostalgic! It certainly wasn't a perfect time with the war going on but it seemed people were more united! Maybe it WAS because of the war!!! Anyway, things sure are different... colder maybe a good way to describe the atmosphere today!!! An aside, I tend to forget, I was born during the depression! (I was the last of ten children, nine girls and little old me) my mum and dad must have been very strong to make it through! Through all of that, our Christmas was always a joyous and warm time in our house!!! That's what I remember! Great memories!!!! Love, Happy Jack XX
