Clomipramine

I got depressed as a teenager
And experienced OCD
I was prescribed clomipramine
An anti- obsessional pill
They said would help me.

It seemed to help alleviate
The symptoms of this disorder
But I experienced side effects
That were quite out of order:

Clomipramine makes you less aware
Of your surroundings and therefore
More easily startled-
It makes you jumpy
And it made me stiff.

I hated myself for having OCD
(and hate myself generally)
Taking this medication gave me
A kind of masochistic pleasure:

It created as many problems
As it managed to help overcome
It made my mouth quite dry and
Sometimes I felt quite numb.
