Cold Rivers Turn Warm

Civil War days have past, one hundred fifty years ago, the north and the south
Soldiers dressed in blue and gray, marching through camp and cold rivers that ran
Fighting a battle for freedom, their guns and cannons would blast away
Taking many young men's lives, while wives and children prayed for it to end today
A Union formed by Lincoln, could this fix everything, at Gettysburg the bloodshed spilled upon the land
It ended with thousands of dead, but did the Union really end the war
Ending with Lee's surrender, black and white, all had to fight, they pledged they swore
Looking back with sadness as we think about our rights, cold rivers running
Turn warm with the color red, what a sight, let our nation see that we must have an understanding
Let our American Flag wave, for the brave and honorable who fought in this war
May freedom ring, let our nation be proud, united together, for the good and the bad
While rivers are cold they turn into warm, the feeling, now perserving our rights from the north to the south, this was the command
Fear not the past, conquer the present, let the cold rivers turn warm, warm from our hearts forever
