Color Blind

(for the dreamers...)
Struck down, beaten, broken and abused,
Tormented by the fiery flames of our better and lighter half,
We are the black sheep cast down upon this impoverished, desolate ground to nourish our pitiful selves,
No,
Not selves... but figures
Because, we vile counterparts are not deemed worthy of having the title “self”,
As that would require us to be human beings,
According to the great scriptures of the bleached saga,
We are not recognized as beings that roam the earth like you and I,
But as lesser beasts of the Earth that crawl and grovel on our bruised knees,
Although surrounded by cornucopias of nourishment, we pray to the heavens for small scraps of stale bread to feed our dying mothers and see-through children,
We colored abominations are the withering branches of the tree of life,
Striving for drops of sunlight in order to stay alive in this corrupt community,
Captured in a birdcage of unbreakable shackles proving their worth by
Imitating scenarios where we might actually escape from this surreal nightmare,
Only to be dragged down to this ceaseless hell...over and over again,
Unbearable,
It makes your sanity level drop to absolute rock bottom,
Stripped bare of our human rights,
Pardon me,
Stripped bare of our “rights”,
Why?
Solely because we are the darker brothers and sisters,
They are the Sun and we are the Moon,
The moon pales in dire comparison? Wrong.
Both Sun and Moon have an indisputable beauty and uniqueness harbored by no other celestial beings,
The Sun with its ever so radiant beauty pouring down glistening pools of sunlight to rid us all of a bad day,
And as we face the Sun, all evil shadows fall behind us,
The Moon with its ghostly veil that dances in the bejeweled blanket of black, illuminating our world when in the darkness,
These two entities are imperative for there to be a balance,
They are both equal and have their own roles in life.
Color blindness, a symptom thought to be discarded in the days of Martin Luther King Jr. and Rosa Parks,
Is a disease where one looks and perceives those of color as non-existent,
They are blind to the beauty of color as they can only see white,
For how long will we leave this disease with no cure,
How long will we stay colorblind?
When will our eyes open and see the various colors of the world,
Acknowledging them each of their own unique beauty,
The norm is being colorblind,
HOWEVER,
There are those who defy the norm and face anguish and terror head on,
In hopes that they may be able to make a difference for the next generation,
Fearlessly, they pounce into the lion’s den postured to attack,
Sinking their toothless jaws into the enemy,
They endeavor tirelessly to change life as we know it,
Every great man in history had a mountain to climb over,
And so do we,
Now over time, those mountains slowly depleted away,
Make no mistake they are still there,
Those that still believe in unequality, slavery, injustice,
They must be severely punished with our weapons of words,
Strong enough to break hearts and shed tears,
Let the shame and regret of their acts tear them from the inside out,
Rip their darkened souls out,
And replace them with shining stars of purity,
But will this be enough?
No. Not yet,
Not all will be so easily cleansed and purified,
So,
We must fight till we draw our VERY last breaths for the sake of equality,
For the sake of those that will come after us,
And for the sake of freedom for us all,
If they rip our arms off we shall kick them with words of wisdom,
If them rip our legs off, we shall scream at them with our voices in unison,
If they rip our heads off, we shall stare at them with eyes of understanding for they do not know better,
And if they gouge our eyes out, then we shall be the angels that guide them from beyond the grave!
But we will not give up!
We will never give up!
No matter what adversities fall beneath our bloodied feet,
We’ll pick them up and bear the heavy burden,
We’ll use our tears of anguish to hydrate our eyes so as to not lose sight,
For there will come a day when people of different race, culture, color are all accepted as one,
Where we will all embrace each other and tell our children folklore about how we were once separated but them came together,
Where we will be able to walk on the street without being instantly judged based on our color,
We will not be Sun,
Moon,
But Sun and Moon,
We will be proud of our heritage,
Where we cast both our beauties down upon everyone to revel in our conjoined awesomeness,
Finally,
The deaths of those from long ago will have not been in vain,
And until that day comes we will all be waiting and watching,
Be it from above or below,
And when that day does come,
We shall all truly not only be at peace,
But free,
As we spread out our now multi-colored wings,
And soar away into paradise.

Hi Lillian Wow I read this late last night and it really
affected me, it made me really think about what people go through
day in day out to survive in this cruel unjust world. It felt as I read through
as a plea for much needed changes
I am myself would say i am" Color Blind" but not for the reasons you
write, I am "Color Blind "because I see no color only people
I love the comparisons between the sun and moon
creating some great imagery
My respect to you for such a well written piece
Welcome to Cosmo look forward to reading you more
Best wishes Debs
Hi Debs! OMG. I never thought I would actually ever get nominated even though i probably won't win. I also never thought someone would actually leave a comment, so thank you so much! As a very young writer-person...ish, I really do want to improve on my writing and get better at poetry. Thank you so much and I really look forward to writing more pieces. Thanks!!!

Hi Debs! I'm really sorry to bother you again but I have a bit of a predicament on my hands right now. I have been looking to delete one of my poems as I accidentally posted them twice. I asked a fellow poet and my response was to message a VIP for help. My first thought was to contact you since I know no other. I would really appreciate it if you could help.
PS if you can, I would prefer you deleted the one with less view and no comments. Thank you for your time.
