Come soon, Lord Jesus

Come soon, Lord Jesus

A dark veil, a cloud, a thick fog settled on the valley threatening to penetrate and drive out all light in each heart. A hit and run, car accident, cancer, robbery, neglect, abuse… the norm, expected. What elsewhere shocks others, here is, not that bad…

Another death. A funeral being prepared for. The fourth in two weeks. Each one chips away at my heart in unexpected ways. It’s the realization of memories unmade, milestones unlived, friendships cut short, and often eternal security unknown. I see broken, shattered hearts and lives that feel like there is nothing to ever piece them back together again. Previous hopelessness has given way to darker, deeper despair.

I see it over and over and my heart feels as though the fractures enlarge and expand each time. The pain touches something deep inside me where pain from the past and present collide. In that deep place, my soul is convinced this is not how it’s supposed to be and often with more tears than words it longs for all to be made right. Come soon, Lord Jesus.
