Sick inside this tomb, yearning to separate
And soar beyond the ruins, but I can't levitate
Only instead isolate myself
From a world that shuns the truth
So I've abandoned the cave and am never looking back
As wayward tongues flutter, branding me a heresiarch
When you know that it is in itself
A reflection of your own prejudice to presume
That I am that very malefactor you accuse
Walk with me, from Salem to Zion
And witness them lie as the witches burn
And if you'd only glance behind you
You'd see the fire, where shadows dance upon the wall
And the puppets who conceal the truth, define it
As the hands above them join for mutual profusion
That in the end will destroy us all
Strip away your chains
For their hold is only as strong as you allow
Or maybe the voices soothe you
And become the thoughts for which you render sound
Therefore, until you escape
I'll be on the outside reaching down
I promise the light won't blind you
For as long as you seek to know the truth
Your freedom will be found

We seek the truth, in the darkness. Your last few lines offer light & hope.
I really like it. This is a great piece, Ian. I am looking forward to more of
your writings.
Greetings, Bernadete

I think about that cave a lot, where trinkets lie, distractions to bind us in the hope we will never see the light.

Being Me

Genius! Your writing is genius. I like this A LOT! Actually, I love it. Such darkness in the beginning and such power through out. Amazing and a poem I very much enjoyed reading x
