Curtain Call

Curtain Call

each night i spent
lost in the shards
of your memory
where each piece
splintered
my fadingĀ Ā heart

i found no recourse
from the remorse
of standing
on the shores
of your affection

where the sand
was course
and neither rain
nor wave
would satiate
the callused pain
at the hands
of your indifference

the more i tried
the more you lied

i knew the signs
but yet we would sit
and i would hold you
as you cried

but it wasn't enough
and still
you would run
wanting more
than what
could be offered
from the depths
of my love

we had a trust
and a bond
that no love song
could describe
as "right"
or "wrong"

still...
through it all...
i saw
past the flaws
and i remained...
until your final
curtain call
