Dared to jump

DARED TO JUMP
Today was the day
for the risk to take
as the train driver gulped
and pulled on the brake.
Egged on by friends
and to the stop the whines
they dared him
to jump the railway lines.
All went to watch
at the busiest track
couldn't chicken out
no looking back.
Stepped onto the verge
right next to the rails
goaded forward
by the group of males.
Now was the time
to prove no fear
as the speeding train
came ever so near.
He decided to jump then
with fear ever growing
the brakes on full
the train hardly slowing.
As it barreled forward
like a huge metal horse
the train struck his body
with incredible force.
Shattered his bones
with a shower of red
dismembered his limbs
and cut off his head.
The train driver froze
as it came to a halt
a terrible accident
it wasn't his fault.

This is why the railways
always set fines
to stop stupid kids
from playing on the lines.
The lads in shock
frozen in place
as the head rolled towards them
showing their best friends face.
Emergency services were called
straight away
accidental death
recorded that day.
Took several hours
to clean train and track
train driver in shock
told not to look back.
They all learnt a lesson
on that terrible day
haunting memories
never going away.
