Darkest Eyes

My eyes have seen the mighty sky of native bloods rolling veins
With clouds of thunder, the heaviest of pouring mounds of rains
Falling down to keep us alive, over dry cracked breaking dessert earth
Without the skies spirit, smoke from the fires rage would rise high
In the nearby mountains we kept shelter for days, in safe haven
As the forests burned away in red roasting, blazing terrors of flames
Driven by herds of wild buffalo, our game, we found a new land
Darkest, almost black, the haunting past, my eyes now blind
I do not look back, onward we are challenged by the light of day
As days grow longer, moonstruck, the owls watch the ghosts shadows
Wherever the valleys and mountains take us , we shall go
Rivers and streams flow, where we drink and spear the fish we eat
We shall overcome, not beaten down, we are strong, as darkness fades away
Darkest eyes of yesterday
