Day Of The Last

Day Of The Last

We were out on a Sunday noon, lazing on a picnic mat,
The sun was at it's brightest, and so we bought a hat,
And as the sun crept down lower, we sheltered under an oak trees shade,
It was now getting late afternoon, the sun started to fade.

We had enjoyed each others company, played some games and talked a lot,
We reminised about all the times, and the places we never got,
The birds were chirping loud this day, it was a view for one to behold,
I guess we will never see the day, we would never get to be old.

As the last of the rays danced around, the beautiful city skyline,
My arm went around my dear wife, as if to say things will be fine,
And at five forty five exactly, I saw it high up in the sky,
A big long pointy object, with a lot of smoke coming out behind.

Someone grabbed had grabbed a camera, and made things go in slow time,
The object speared down towards the city, a quick flash and I was blind,
My vision quickly came back to me, the delayed explosion was so loud,
And then I saw it in all it's beauty, a huge nuclear cloud.

It was only a matter of time I thought, and we would be wiped from this place,
I thought about my lovely wife and child, and a tear ran down my face,
We thought I rather face it, with living there wasn't much to gain,
So decided to spend the day together, and then we'd suffer no pain.

Can you stop this madness, we are all grown adults here,
You can't just go around making threats, it is a time of fear,
We want you to de-escalate things, we want hostilities to cease,
We only have one earth one life, let's all give in to peace.
