Daydreaming In Black And White

Daydreaming In Black And White

It was in July
I lay on the beach
the sand stuck on my wet bathing suit and bare midriff
the sun shinning down
it’s rays
like an electric shock.
I was dreaming
day dreaming
the waves were rushing in
drifting away
continuously.
It seemed that
every living thing
there
was part of me.
Dave and Arlene (playing 500 rummy)
the little children
splashing in the water
screaming
when a wave got out of hand.
The baby’s weary sounds
trying to say
his sunburn hurts
the older women
talking about all the gossip
from two weeks ago
and even the two little dogs
in the far left
making puppy love.
I was trying to put
everything
in it’s right place when
something happened that
didn’t fit in.
A hand
soft gentle warm
placed upon my back.
I looked up he stood there tall
dark hair reaching down (upon his neck)
eyes of wanting and confusion shining
with the glow of the sun.
Him
Was I daydreaming?  Was it real?
it just didn’t fit in
he was hundreds of miles
away (i think).
He took my hand (shaky as it was)
and folded it upon his
without a word (a vocal word that is for our
hearts and eyes were speaking for us)
we walked and walked
along the ocean’s shore
listening to the sound
the sound of freedom.
His hair blowing in the wind
droplets of water
splashing upon us.
I looked at him and he at me
it still didn’t fit in.
He kissed me a kiss gently
but wholly
and breaking away
from my deepest thoughts I felt his hand
upon my flesh.
Then without a sound he turned away
walking into the ocean
within a minut he was
gone.
Gone within the freedom of the waves and
I stood there for a moment
a tear ran from my eye
then a smile
soft gentle warm
(like that of the touch of his hand)
grew upon my face.
And right then and there
I lay on the beach
the sand stuck on my wet bathing suit and bare midriff
the sun shinning down
it’s rays
like an electric shock.
