Welcome to our squad, it's a happy little bunch 
We're all pretty good friends actually, but you probably can't imagine that yet
I'm writing this pretending it is for you, but it's actually so I can stop tensing all the muscles in my jaw when I see you 
Or think of you
Or pretend to be you

Can I call you New Girl?
I want to let you know that I like you, honestly 
You have brought light into unlit places and painted old, yellowing walls bright orange
You are courageous, New Girl, because this club I told you about has been tossed around 
We're like a halfway decent Caesar salad 
Please bring more cheese, we love it

You may think that we resemble plants that were accidentally knocked onto your kitchen floor 
And maybe you're right,
But we are growing in the spaces between the tile and someday we hope to be uprooted and put back into the sun 

New Girl, 
I think I should tell you something, full disclosure,
I stalk your Instagram a lot 
I think I'm craving that empty feeling not even 1,000 nature walks can fill 
When I see him smiling in your pictures
I think of what you may have said to him 
Or if he was thinking of something he saw on the train 
Maybe I try to pretend he was thinking of what my hair felt like when I laid next to him at night
I hope he's not, for both our sakes, New Girl

Anyway,
I'm excited to see what you'll do here 
I think that with a little luck and some of us behind you
You will begin to find shelter in the grout between tiles, too
I hope we can be friends, New Girl
I hope you haven't already decided that I am the last person you want to run into at the supermarket 
Though, I don't want to lie, I don't  want to see you in the produce section either
