Democracy a Noble Lie?

Democracy is it a noble lie?
To conceptually rule ourselves,
Tis utopian no one can deny!

School taught of the founding fathers bold dreams,
A society without a despot all the masses agreed.
It cannot be denied this structure hit the spot.
But read between the lines and you know it to be true;
The government devised was never for me and you.

The electoral college what does it do?
If you think popular vote decides elections you dont have a clue

And what of powerful influence from private enterprise?
we all see corporations in the midst.
donating a fortune to get their way,
Drafting legislation and buying our leaders,
is this the American way?

Through extensive research I uncovered another riddle,
of how the real power players of our world contrive.
under cover of darkness they rule and divide.

Conspiracy tis called by the ignorant.
for they believe the spoon they were fed.

Glance for yourself ,
take the time,
Look at the secret affiliation of your leaders,
It costs not a dime.

What does this mean for you and me?
While the obvious answer be clear its still an enigma to me!
