Dexter Bristol

Dexter Bristol

Dexter Bristol was eight in '68.

Sentine Bristol used her British passport
to make a change of life.
She had come to the U.K. as a N.H.S. nurse,
in our time of need.

Now she could bring her eight year old son.

To London's racism.
To London's slums.

It was her right.
It was his right.

An unfair plight.
Bureaucracy's slight.

To say, in 2016, we have no papers for you.

You are not British.

You are not one of us.

You are a lonely singularity of you.

You can have none of our benefits.

You are not allowed to keep your job.

On the 31st of March 2018
Dexter's heart finally broke.

To our eternal shame.

The Windrush scandal right Nigel? Shocking to say the least. Good poem.

Nigel Cresswell...

Syd, when I think of his last two confused, bewildering, hurtful years I really want to punch someone in the face.
Disgusted with my nation and the Labour party does not get out of this clean. The immigration records were destroyed under the Blair administration.
Seems that in part because of Dexter's inquest we will at least have to own this shame.
Thanks Syd.
Keep well, keep the faith.
Nigel.
