Dogs dinner

She heard his foot steps
And the key turn the lock
Bloody late again
As she glanced at the clock
She could hear him
Trying to be like a mouse
She could smell the booze
Before he was in the house
Stumbled into the kitchen
Shouting where is my tea
In the dog she replied
Hiding her glee
It was a mistake
He didn't get the joke
Should have known better
He's a grumpy bloke
His fist broke her jaw
Like snapping a twig
And he grabbed the whisky
And took a swig
She recoiled with fear
As he aimed at her face
Thought better of it
And spat into space
He sat at the table
Waiting for food
It was always booze
Made his bad mood
She picked herself up
And moved to the side
Nowhere to flee to
Nowhere to hide
She got his tea from the oven
And placed it down
He looked at weirdly
With unforgiving frown.
He poured on the gravy
And took a big bite
Didn't notice the poison
Hidden out of sight
He finished his meal
Let out a big burp
Grabbed the whiskey
And took a big slurp
He didnt know
That was poisoned too
Started to vomit
As he ran for the loo
Took only 5 minutes
For him to die
As she perfected her story
A perfect lie
He didn't come from the pub
She would say
She would wait all night
And the following day.
How would she explain
Her broken jaw
When the men came asking
The men from the law
Tripped over the dog
And hit the table
That would be the end
Of her cunning fable.
