Dragon

I saw in my father, the beast arising,
Like a horrid dragon, rearing an ugly head.
His eyes hatefully spit fire, hypnotizing,
Bespelled my heart, searing hopeless dread.
He smiled malevolently with a tobacco grin,
His large taloned hands heavily descend.
I closed my eyes, bottling the fear within,
Praying fervently, for a hero to defend.
What'd I done warranting the wrath?
Blows that came had drawn innocent blood.
Brutal marks made a scarring path,
On calloused knees, smeared with gory crud.
Now as a parent Iβve become, the slayer,
Dispatching a horrid dragon called abuse.
I teach my children years later,
Cruelty to others has no excuse.
Climb bravely to your feet,
Present the other cheek.
A craven dragon will know defeat,
An abuser, the one who's weak.
