Poem -

Drunken Thoughts and Yellow Raincoats

Ambulances cry out in the darkness
While thoughts of you take arms and swim away
Damned am I to rest upon the evening
Blessed you are to see the light of day

Frost bites the chess games on the piazza
But I was taught to cling to the attack
See the men with nothing rise up early
While kings just cry for rain and break their backs

Hours pass, the night is slowly melting
Your hands are shaking in a tiny room
While cigarettes explode out in the alley
Spreading like a riot of perfume

Those dumbbells in your eyes yesterday quivered
In my mind, they shake and rattle on
I long to lift them someday on the horizon
A shoulder for your cheek to lie upon

But for now, I will dissolve my holy poison
In skies of satin green, I know my place
I wake up satisfied just to be living

But still, each day, my eyes fly to your face
