{Echo} Narcissus

{Echo} Narcissus

Dreams never take form and flesh upon the earth
Within the glassy image they reside.
It may be more to suffer than life is worth
Yet I remain, forever, at your side.

Within the glassy image I reside
The paste-pale mirror of your last lament
And so remain forever at my side
Clinging to the remnants of a moment.

This paste-pale mirror of my last lament
Reveals what I've become ~ morose and gaunt
Clinging to the remnants of a moment
of wanting and not wanting not to want.

Reveal to me this face ~ morose and gaunt
Reveal to me this love for which I grope
This wanting and this wanting not to want
This unrelenting cruelty of hope.

Reveal to me this love for which I grope
I've sung my song; entrusted to your care
The unrelenting cruelty of hope
Is uttered and then dies upon the air.

The song is sung; entrusted to my care
It can't be more to live, to want, to dream
These words, once uttered, die upon the air
Always is not as long as it may seem.

It can't be more to live, to want, to dream
It may be more to suffer than life is worth
Always is not as long as it may seem
Dreams never take form and flesh upon the earth.

Thank you so very much for your kind words.
Writing, particularly poetry, is such a lonely preoccupation with little (if any) contact with your audience (again...if any!) that it's easy to feel as though you're writing into a vacuum...or perhaps the Abyss, as described by Nietzsche! You've experienced this yourself, I'm sure.

One word of warning: 'Following' me is probably a bad idea.Β I never have any clueΒ where I'm going!!

Two nothings make a something?? Sounds very mathematical to me.

Of course I could follow you and you could follow me and we'd end up just going round in circles. Which sounds like it could be fun...but I'm prone to dizzy spells; I'd probably just fall over a lot!

I'm sorry, I forgot my manners in all the verbiage; I should ask your real name. POETESSDARKLY is so formal...and portentous...and not a little terrifying!!!

Nice to meet you, Lisa. My friends call me J.
My enemies, on the other hand, would never dare to utter my name...lest they incur my terrible wrath!
