Eclipse

Eclipse

The sky hung opaque and thick
Not a breath of air
The leaves dangled in suspense
On bows which were almost bare
Birds with beaks firmly closed
Yet twitching beady eyes
Looked towards the sky
Frozen with surprise
And from behind a sphere of black
A ray of light broke free
It burst out defiantly
Illuminating every tree
And then another followed suit
Another ray of light
It pierced the eerie silence
And the birds sang with all their might
