Ecological Events of Epic Proportions

Ecological Events of Epic Proportions

As the day came brightly dawning, I stretched out, awakened, yawning;
dewdrops dipped beneath the awning โ€” gleaming in the light of day.
Birdsong filled the air with singing, my head swooned โ€“ ears started ringing.
Breezes wafted, with them, bringing, scents of jasmine blown my way.
Why, then, did I feel dismay?

ย
Nightmares seemed to cling and linger; crimson caked โ€˜neath ev'ry finger.
Bumblebees with bulbous stingers, filled the skies the bleakest black.
As I watched in awe and wonder, lightning flashed, sonorous thunder,
caused these hordes of bees to plunder, crawling deep in evโ€™ry crack.
Earth was now under attackโ€ฆ

ย
Anthills rose, the size of mountains, spewing ants like fearsome fountains.
Pincered horrors, flowing, countless โ€” covered everything in sight.
Had I known their dire intentions Iโ€™d have planned an intervention.
As of yet, Iโ€™ve failed to mention how my body quaked with fright.
ย Plagues of nature โ€” sinners' plight.

ย
Frogs rained down from skies, now roiling, columns of foul flies came, soiling,
everything they touched, soon spoiling โ€” blight rained down upon our world.
Fiery hail, the size of softballs, bludgeoned buildings, felled stout stone walls.
ย Godโ€™s voice boomed above the stormโ€™s squalls, โ€œMankind meets his end this day.โ€
Aberrationsย crept my wayโ€ฆ

Just before those terrors reached me, I cried, โ€œGod, please, I beseech thee;
is there no more You can teach me to protect our tortured Earth?โ€

I awoke bathed in a cold sweat; dazed, confused โ€“ as horrors beset
all the land; had they not come yet? โ€” All was well, or so it seemed.
ย It was just some foolish dream.

ย
I ran to an open window, sunlight glistened on the meadow,
lush, so green; world draped in shadow; dawn shed day's life-giving light.
I exhaled, a calming feeling, no more was my mind still reeling.
Up above me, on the ceiling, eyes looked down with hungered lustโ€”
Spider venom in me, thrustโ€ฆ soon reduced my bones to dust.
