Human Beings, reluctant hosts,
Where is God when you need him the most?
No forewarned slaughter of innocent lives,
Family members left traumatised,
No hospital visit to say 'goodbye',
Rules, regulations, restrictions apply,
A virus to try us, deny us the right
To smile, be happy with a satisfied life,
Nurses petrified,  Covid-19
Threatening  to spread with rapidity,
Dread of infection unsettling minds,
Do or die efforts to tow the line,
"Stay indoors' orders although depressing
Limit discriminant virus spreading,
Lockdowns renowned the whole world over,
Empty streets, no shoulder to shoulder,
Get-togethers kept on hold,
Upsetting for the sociable,
Isolation takes its toll;
Stir-crazy days, boring, dull,
Precautions never known before,
Distortions of all daily chores,
Shoppers queueing one by one
Two metres apart on a supermarket run,
The insistence on distance; a vital gap
Increases resistance to being attacked
By invisible species of virus entrails
Possessing the body in shoddy detail,
Acts of defiance, brave words for the nations,
No immediate answer while being complacent,
Too slow in reacting to combat the threat,
Hindsight's a gift when you swiftly reflect
On chances gone by, fatally lost,
Wasted lives at such a cost!
Relations, acquaintances gone who were close,
Where is God when you need him the most?
