Fall of a Sparrow

Fall of a Sparrow

meditation on a theme by Shakespeare
…for Tony Taylor

She contemplates the river’s coursing surge
(as Heraclitus saw the course of life)
where courses, ever changing, may converge
on ecstasies of such a joyous grief.
Strewn petals from the sweetest, bittersweet
Too sweet for song ~ too bitter for a crown
A pampered princeling’s missives at her feet
The rest enrapt in cruel eiderdown.
If in the trees above, a sparrow sings;
what strange, unanswered questions must we ask
of spectres, actors and ephemeral things
to put a cellar-dweller to the task?
We stage such courses which will both enthral
and mask the horror of Ophelia’s fall.

My Dear Friend Jason,

On Ophelia

Some say a gentle sparrow

Some say a hawk so fierce

Was her vulva pure and narrow

Or by many men been pierced

Was Hamlet her heart held hero

Or but a tool for access to the throne

Was it true she worshiped Nero

And her soul was cold as stone

When she climbed atop the Willow tree

Did she really slip and fall

Or jump and say "God take me"

Oh, the mystery of it all

Peace and Love,

Larry, my dear friend,

This is exquisitely beautiful.
You should post it on your own page.

The accomplished beauty of this poem is also one of the many reasons I remain...

your friend & fan,

J ;)

My Dear Friend Jason,

The true exquisite beauty is in the power of your words. Β I'm always in awe when I absorb the depths of your brilliance. Β I consider you and two others that I think you might know, to whom I refer, as the three greatest male poets on Cosmo. Β You honor me. Β You extol me. Β You bring tears to my eyes, for never in my wildest dreams when I first came on Cosmo, did I think I would find such happiness. Β My Linda, knowing two years ago that our losing Nico had driven me to the brinks of non-existence, found this lovely venue called Cosmo, for poets. Β Even though I still cry for him every day, I now have a coterie of loving friends who rescue me from total despair. Β I love you all, and as you support me, I will do all in my power to return the favor. Β With that said, as per your encouragement, I will publish "On Ophelia", but will let the Cosmo world know, that because of you, I created it.

Peace and Love,

Larry xxx
