Flowers Are More Beautiful

Flowers Are More Beautiful

They gave me a letter from 'yesterday, today and tomorrow,'
it said: we'll give you our heady scent, no need to borrow,
frangipani offered a sweet reply, an unparalleled goodbye,
but the power hung in the air, made you fade with a sigh.

Who could not let honeysuckle turn so many heads,
with envy from pretenders in delightful flower beds,
yon rose had more luscious beauty than any other face,
a leader from its birth, could not omit a pungent trace.

The fields of lavender sat smiling in coloured swarm,
guarding insects, making sure beauty came to no harm,
fragrant evergreen jasmine was a star, above and below,
played games, flashed white, reduced you to a shadow.

They came together, white, purple and blue, looking at you,
to match their ethereal quality, nothing to equal such a view.

Dear poet brother ~ your ability to wield the power of the 'Sonnet' has grown into an absolutely wonderful thing to be witness to.......in this the textures created are so perfect for its subject matter.......your recent poem on Samurai was equally perfect......and in their recognition of the 'Body' of the poem itself......they shine with the glow of one who knows what they're doing......with stellar phrasing that speaks to this ~
