Fool’s Gold

I am often told, that I settled for fool’s gold.

As if I wasn’t aware, but I no longer cared.

While I strived to find true love, the gods laughed from above.

I couldn’t break this accursed spell, no matter how deeply I fell.

From the hazy enchantment, you took advantage of every moment.

You say your actions were regretful, but your seemingly heartfelt apologies were always forgetful.

In the back of my mind, it was deeply rooted, but a strange fear kept my common sense muted.

For a love so precious, maybe I was just too tenacious.

I didn’t have a shred of naivety, but I still bought into this love so shamefully.

I know it’s sad of me to say,
I would rather take a love so erroneous, then drown in these feelings of loneliness.

Being in love is something I falsely portray, to keep forlorn feelings at bay.

So I’ll take my gold for fools, and give up on loves’ pure jewels.
