Footsteps from the Past

Echoes of fading foot steps

evoke memories so strong

of loved ones that were lost

for their parting feels wrong

a shadow through the darkness

or a slight waft of their scent

glimpses of a former life

seem to be here to torment

a slow and steady rhythm

like a beat across the ground

as each step tells its story

mixed emotions can be found

haunting sounds are still heard

as if someone is walking by

these passing rhythmic foot falls

stirs my soulful heart to sigh
