Foreign Lands

Forgotten Hell

Foreign Lands

In a desperate battle,
He charged up the hill.
Mowed down by the gunfire,
But no rapid was the kill.

He stumbled then fell,
Kissed the mud and yelled,
- Prayed just knowing
He`d go to hell.

For the countless of others,
That he had murdered that day.
And others just like him,
Just past his way.

The battle is lost.
No hope now.
The smell of stale blood.
A stench, so foul.

In the weeks that pasted,
He stayed there at last.
Gloryless, not odourless in the state which he died.
With no soil to cover him or coffin to lie.

Just some foreigners planting bullets in his head.
Just to make sure "the foe was dead".

Like hell, it was for his country,
For him to die on a mound,
In a foreign land,
Where his grave would never be found.

Like hell, he would be remembered
By his grieving Mother or Brother.
Caught on opposite fronts.
Stuck alone to suffer.

He gave up everything,
For an adventure and some life,
And maybe he`d settle down,
Hell even a wife.

But the end came closer.
And he`ll continue to lay.
Buried in foreign lands.
And forgotten he`ll stay.

A tribute.
The Fish of the Sea.

Inspired by Dvon and Bradford (Rock)

The forgotten are the most immortal.
For their actions save us all.

Not a hair of the head will be lost saith the Lord. He cherishes courage, and loves all His spirit children. We all receive immortality as a free gift reunited with our glorified body. Those that give their lives here for a righteous cause, it will be well, with them, in the next life! awesome poem!

Oops! Nearly missed your kind comment Jim, Thanks for sharing your beliefs, I like what you are saying but, if their no war in the first place, then Children of God shouldn't have to give their lives... It's interesting to think that in an international conflict both sides always think they have God on their side... Thanks again! All the Best. The Fish of the Sea

Unfortunately, the war started in Heaven and won't be over for a while longer. We learn good from evil here, and then get to make a choice.I choose no war, but I choose good.Wish I could have it both ways!

A really powerful write! Unfortunately truth for too many! The hardest part after the loss has to be not being able to give a loved one a proper burial and place of rest. So sad and senseless.
The 'adventure' part struck me, as that is what these kids are led to believe!

Aww thanks so much, Pen! And what you say is unfortunately very true, such a senseless act war is... I`m glad you took the time to comment. You have no idea how much comments keep me going with my poetry... It's really appreciated. I look forward to seeing more of your work! :). Thanks again and kind regards. The Fish of the Sea

Too many gardens of stone exist today Max, filled with far too many Fallen.
People from all walks of life, who have paid the ultimate sacrifice so others may live and bloom.
War is waste. War is hell.
And victory comes with a steep and irreplaceable cost attached.

'They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old,
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.'

So lest we forget and remember them for what each of them could have been.
Respect to you Max for writing so powerfully and thank you for doing so.

Agreed Shaun, in recent times I feel as if we don't learn from our mistakes. These days i tend to bury my head in the sand and avoid writing such topics. I'm not sure the lack of communication is the way to solve the world's problems. But what can I do, I'm just a simple poet! Again thank you so much for your kind comment, really glad you found something you liked in this one, by no spark of the imagination is it my best work.
